Life moves in forces and intensities. SPEED! Then nothing. An ancient hum. The every-day maintenance: commuting to work, laundry, a dust accumulating. Babies being born. Your family tree changing. Everything in your cells. Major events-- a sneeze. Waiting and acting and time holding it all. So much can change in an instant.
Time moves fast. Sometimes it feels slow. What is the form of time? How does the form of time, or one’s movement across time, constitute “life”? Being Alive is a group show set in a stairwell, featuring twelve artists working across sculpture, painting, photography, site-specific installation, drawing, video, and other material explorations. Everything circling these questions.
Collectively, the artists use texture and rhythm to create a language with the amorphous, spiritual, circulating energy of life/time’s continuum. The word “amorphous” comes from the Greek words a- (without) and morphe (form). Being Alive gives time a form through an environmental staging of it, an assemblage of materials and gestures that translate the movement of bodies across time.
The matter vibrates with attention, vibrates with process, vibrates with inherent present time.
